Testimonials

Question:
How many times have you heard someone rave about a breeder or pet food/product, thought about trying it, & then heard bad things?
It seems that there are people out there who will testify that *anything* is good for pets!!!
On another forum I couln't beleive my eyes when I read a testimonial from someone who said that Alpo & horse poop gave their relatives' dogs the best condition & health.
There are people who give testimonials that rabbit food is the best for chins, all natural/premium pet food is a scam, neutering/spaying are bad, etc.
It's just so confusing.
Anyone else feel this way???

Answer:
I try not to listen to the masses of people on other forums. I have based my knowledge on chinchillas from highly regarded breeders and of course ranchers. I don't pay attention to what anyone else says on other forums. I explicity trust the people I have learned from and won't go any other route.

Answer:
Even with people that I trust completely (ie. my vet), I still like to do my own research...not only to verify the information but also to understand it fully myself. I am, and always have been, a skeptic and I don't think that will ever change. It's not that I don't believe testimonials, it's just that I would like to come to my own conclusion, instead of just following someone else's.

Answer:
I know exactly what you mean!! Mostly I feel that if you are feeding your dog, dog food that is $8.00 for a 50 lb bag, and your dog is doing well...I think your dog just has very good genes to begin with. To a point you DO have to do and use what works best for YOUR animal but common sense should prevail.

Answer:
Another thing I try not to do is make impulse buys. It is really tempting when everyone is raving about the latest, greatest thing...so I usually try to research first.

Answer:
It's just like with anything else I suppose, but it seems to be so pervasive with pets, this occurrence where someone or a group on a forum goes on & on about how great a product or breeder is. I think it can persuade newbies & other malleable folks to switch, without there necessarily being agood reason.
I think that what Denise said is the best perspective to take: find a manufacturer or breeder you respect for their results, & abide by their advice & common sense, rather than following advertising or testimonials.
The thing is, testimonials are everywhere these days. Even the lowest quality brands seem to have people dying to rave about their products- perhaps to get on tv/radio/in print?

Answer:
I think that there are so many testimonials because every owner would like to think that they are doing the best for their pet. If you couldn't rave about the food you are feeding, would you be feeding it? I haven't come across many people saying, "I feed X but it's not a very good food, food Y is better."

Answer:
I suppose you're right. Which leads me to disregard testimonials even more!! lol
