We'll miss you 2D....

Question:
Our pet rat 2D died tonight, Monday May 3rd, 2004. I know a lot of my friends and family couldn't imagine having a rat as a pet.. neither could I at first when my brother bought him.. but over the year and a half that we had him, 2D showed us that rats are amazing pets. He wasn't the friendliest of rats after he went through puberty, it didn't help that the pet store he was purchased at was very unknowledgable about rats, but we still loved him no matter what. He was spoiled with treats and special attention since he was alone (only after he went through puberty and wasn't as friendly did we learn rats should be purchased in at least pairs as they're better if not alone)... he got extra attention when all the chins got dust baths since I felt bad that he was the odd man out.. watching them roll through his cage.. our tooders loved toilet paper stuffed into a tp roll, he enjoyed playing tug a rope with it when we held one end.. and then making a nest out of it and dozing for a while. He knew when I got up in the morning to wake up the bird and give the bird a snack that he'd get one too and he'd be up on his back legs sniffing around waiting for me to give him something.. He also very quickly learned that when we made the kissy noise that it meant snack time at night for all the chinchillas and he came running to the side of the cage to see what tonight's flavor of yogurt drop was...
That was how we found out he had died tonight.. when snack time came he didn't come running.. and when I reached in and touched him I knew he was gone.. He looked like he passed while he was sleeping.. his eyes half closed like normal when he's trying to find a comfy spot without really waking himself up all the way.. stretched out in his favorite sleeping spot, his comfy hammock.. I pray that he went peacefully, and that even though he wasn't as cuddly as he was before puberty I hope and pray that he knew he was very much loved and will be very missed.. especially in the mornings, he was the first one to see me and I him every morning.. it'll be hard tomorrow morning to not see him waiting for his snack... sticking his little nose through the bars trying to sniff out whatever I was going to give him.. if you'll all excuse me writing this has opened a whole new flood gate of tears.. I think I'll go cuddle with a chinchilla or one of the cats and cry into some fur.. *small smile*.. they all seem to know something's wrong as they keep looking at me and watching me cry.. if only I could explain to them.. 2D will be missed by us, but I know his fur buddies will miss him as well... Take care everyone.. and God Bless...

Answer:
i am so sorry, angela. i actually lost all fo my naked rats this winter within a few weeks of each other and it was so very hard. every day when i go to their cages, i pray that there are no more deaths. trust me, 2d new you loved him and loved you. if he didn't love and trust in your love, he would nto havebeen the sweet ratty boy he was.
just imagine him slipping under the pearly gates behind peter's back and doing a little victory ratty dance on the othrr side, waiting for his day to see you again. (c'mon rats are just to onery to cross the bridge like most....they gotta find the sneaky way!!)
