How much food per day?

Question:
Okay, before I get to the point...a little explaning. A friend of mine was dog-sitting and mentioned how the bag of food that she bought only lasted for 3 feedings. I asked how much the company suggested for feeding and she said 6 cups.
My dog is on Nutro and he gets just over 3 cups per day (3 and 1/3 to be exact). The cost of his feed is $0.81 per pound when I buy the largest bag (20kg or 44lbs.).
I am curious to see what others are paying and how much they are feeding.

Answer:
well right now I am still feeding pedigree but as soon as this last bit is gone, she is being switched over to Nutro like Kaymen,,,,I free feed Sasha but she is not a "pig" and she does got gorge her food,,,,,I can fill her bowl(about 3 cups) she wont touch it for hrs,,,somedays she will only eat whats in her bowl, other days i have to fill it 3 times,,,,,,,she doesnt eat very much at all
but she does get table scraps as well(nothing bad) but after supper she will get a plate of what we ate, like turkey and potatoes or steak,,whatever it is,,,
Kaymen doesnt eat very much at all,,,,,,,,if i filled her dish to the top I might have to fill it twice a week if that,,,,,,and she doesnt eat any table scraps at all and if she does its just something the kids threw off of their high chair and she picked it up(she likes hot dogs)
and as for paying,,,,,we pay $22.00 for a 20 KG bag of pedigree
just out of curiosity Candice how much do you pay for the big bag of Nutro?

Answer:
Hank is v. expensive: she consumes about 1/4 cup Nutro dry & 2 pouches Nutro a day, costing about $2.50 per day.
The pigs are more reasonable: about 50 cents a day each for Oxbow pellets, hay & produce. They eat a handful of hay, a handful of produce & a scoop of pellets each.
Cub is cheapest. She eats 2 coffee scoops of pellets Oxbow & that's it besides treats. She's about 25 cents a day, I'd guess.
But it's hard to work out the percentage cost of portions per bag of feed!!

Answer:
is Cub still eating hay Neuro? or is she back to not liking it?
nevermind Candice I figured it out on my own how much you pay for the dog food,,,,,,I'm a nice girl, just a bit slow at times

Answer:
6 cups?! Was she dog-sitting a Great Dane?
Both for Fromm & Solid Gold, the suggested amount is half a cup to one cup A DAY for a dog up to 15lbs. Keesha usually eats one cup a day, Ally will eat 3/4 cup on a good day, less than half a cup when she doesn't feel like it. Keesha isabout 14lbs, Ally is about 10lbs.
A 15lb bag of Fromm lasts me about 2 months and cost $35.99, I estimate that Solid Gold would last the same amount of time but costs $29.95.

Answer:
Montana eats 1 cup (or less) of dry Nutro and 2 TBSP of canned food (Canidae right now)
Koko eats 1/4 cup of dry and 1 TBSP of canned..
I only buy the 8 pound bag (for freshness sake) b/c it takes a while to get thru it.. costs about $16/bag (I think) and I have no idea how much that would cost per day...

Answer:
CJ, she was dog-sitting two labs and that was what the company indicated on the label for dogs of their size (75lbs.). It was a lower end food so I am wondering if the theory about those foods costing half as much but having to feed twice as much holds true. I honestly didn't think there would be that much of a difference.
As for the cats, they get 3/4 of a cup of food per day. Max is on Innova still ($45 for 16.5lb bag) and Syd is on her prescription food ($16 for 4lb bag).

Answer:
6 cups each or 6 cups total for both of them?
I know Iams was in trouble for printing wrong amount indications on their food to get pet owners to feed the wrong amount so as to substantiate their claim that their food helps with weight loss (?), my memory is fuzzy. I've also heard that some pet food companies print the wrong amount to get customers to feed their pets more than the required amount thus making more money when the food runs out quicker.
But that might just be an urban legend.

Answer:
6 cups each.

Answer:
That does sound like a lot.
