Introducing my girls...
Question: Sue what about the vanilla technique that Denise uses?? I have never had a problem with putting chins together so I dont really have any advice,,,but i hope they become the best of buds Answer: Introducing older girls is hard, imo. Three days isn't very long to get used to each other. I would put them beside each other for a long time (2-3 weeks) and then see if moving the cages to touching again gets different results. Go very slow. Females will kill each other in a heartbeat. Answer: i have tried to get my girls together (sally and peppers) and with no luck. So i came up with a solution of placing them in the same cage with wire between the 2 and now they are getting along better when out....it is a long process sue and sometimes it doesnt work. Place the cages together close(but not too close) and leave it like that for a good month. then start switching cages on them so they get use to each other smell. Then when intoducing them you need a neutral cage which has no ones particular smell in it........ alot of work ...and then before placing them in a cage together you need to take them out for play time together.....older girls are harder to introduce and i never had any success with mine.........but they are great friends and have been seen snuggling together against the mesh :0) i dont particularly like the vanilla trick as linus got eye trouble afterwards.....you could also place some wet bedding into their cages so they can get use to each other that way Answer: so Heidi, since they are snuggling against the mesh do you think you could cage them together now? Answer: i dont want to mess with a good thing....i am happy with them living in seperate apartments but yet together....i would not trust them together as i have seen peppers going after sally like she wants to kill her. Sally is quiet and peppers is quite the opposite and i know peppers would get on sallys nerves....they are my rescue chinnies and i am not putting them through anymore stress........they are happy .....and so am i as i still only have 1 cage to clean and the cage is huge and when divided up makes 2 nice size cages Answer: thats cool, i was just curious thats all Answer: Yeah, I knew it would take alot longer than 3 days... I just thought if they wanted to kill each other they would have done it on Day 1! I may change my mind on introducing them and go ahead and split the large cage like I planned in the first place... Thanks guys for your advice... I just got home and Pablo's lip & nose look alot better already Answer: Here is the cage after I've split it... it is working out very well too! Pablo got ripped off as now she has only 1/2 of her original cage space but realisticly she wasn't using it all anyway... and Lucia's space is larger.. she's much more active now... Answer: Pablo has started sleeping with her stuck in her flowerpot... it's supposed to be for her hay NOT her butt! I wonder if her hammock is getting too warm to sleep in since its made of fleece? She is sleeping in it right now but... I've found her more than once like this... Answer: i like your set up sue...that is one huge cage.....it that a littler box in the cage? and do they use it????
