What is causing my cats paw pads to swell/blister?
Question: Mojo kitty is approx. 6.5 months old and just had his neutering surgery done about two weeks ago. He came thru fine, no probs. Other than that, nothing else has changed in his diet/environment, etc. I noticed the other day that one of his back paws is swollen, the pads are swollen and look like they are peeling/blistering, and in between the pads there is some redness. He doesnt lick at them and runs around like normal. Today i notice it is also affecting the other back paw and the front ones are looking puffy too... can't get into the vet right now, but asked the doc at the HS and she didn't know. I talked to the foster coordinator and he thought maybe it was the anesthesia working its way out or something... does anyone have any ideas? thanks! Answer: I haven't experienced this before.. but I'm thinking it could be an allergy (food or environment) or there could be a small cut or piece of litter stuck between the pad causing an infection. These are guesses only.. Have you tried soaking the foot? You could use epsom salts in the water.. I'd also get Mojo to the vet as soon as possible to rule out anything serious. he thought maybe it was the anesthesia working its way out or something... I've never heard of that before.. I highly doubt it would be the anesthetic.. Answer: There you are! I was wondering how you were doing. It does sound like an allergy. Here's a good site on Eosinophilic Granuloma (allergies which can affect the mouth, stomach, legs and feet of cats) that really helped when Bruce's lip started flaring up. Luckily he didn't need the injectible steroids they mention - fatty acids and antihistamines conquered his flareups. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/eosi...granuloma.html Answer: Nyx! I've missed you. I'm sorry Mojo is having troubles but I'd really love to see him. Answer: I am adopting Diablo, another foster kitty who was very sick awhile back. He was my only survivor out of a number of sweeties who didn't make it. He was labeled female, but we have since realized he is indeed male. He had a name change He lost most of his fur and ended up with some *learning disabilities* like not being able to jump well, instead he tries to mountain climb everything, and he doesnt have much vision in one eye, which i am sure affects his jumping/climbing thing. He is spoiled rotten and he and Mojo are best buds. Diablo, aka Dobby. and Mojo and Diablo a little while back. Mojo, displaying his yawning abilities: Answer: Awww, what handsome kitties! Answer: Very sweet! I am also inclined to say that it may be a food allergy. Otherwise, it could be an absess from an injury. Answer: I'm so happy your kitty cats are best friends, that's awesome! Answer: What about cleaning products or litter? Could the kitty be reacting from perfumes or something in the litter or to a new cleaning product you may be using on surfacing where he walks?
