Spaying

Question:
I've been doing a lot of reading after learning about the sicknesses cats can get if they aren't fixed and I'd like to get my cat spayed. She is an indoor cat so there has never been a worry about kittens and until recently that's the only spaying problem I was educated about. I am worried though as the websites all say to spay at about 6 months but I have an adult cat and I'm not sure when is too old to spay. I take that back, she's a senior cat. If she is to old for spaying what are my other options to help with her health? And what are things I should ask the vet? I'm a little overwhelmed and would very much like some advice.

Answer:
How old is she? Old age isn't a disease in itself. Bloodwork should be done before going under anesthesia to test liver and kidney function first. If all is well and her heart sounds good, then she shouldn't have any problems.

Answer:
She is 9 and in all around good health. She is on Wellness diet, is strong and active and if you don't know how old she is would swear she is only a year or two old.

Answer:
Have you had her from a kitten? If not, are you sure she's not already fixed? I would get your vet's opinion

Answer:
Yes, I've had her since she was a kitten. She still goes into heats as well.

Answer:
Get blood work done. If all checks out there, she will be fine. Better to spay her now then end up with surgury much later in life due to cancer or whatnot.
