Bathing a cat?
Question: Well the momma cat always is trying to go through the trash or jumping on the counters trying to get at the food and then just being in her cat litter gets her dirty and then the kitty she doesn't do what her mom does but she does go in the kitty litter so I wanted to give them a bath so they would be clean and I would feel comfortable letting them on my couch and bed. I tried the kitty first tonight big mistake lol She started crying and growling so loud and scratching everywhere, so I was like forget this and didn't even try to touch the mom , so should I just give up and take them to the groomers or is there a certain way you guys do this? Answer: I've only ever bathed two of my cats, but there were two of us doing it so it wasn't that difficult. Isobel was just a baby at the time, and Aoife was too shocked by the whole experience to do more than sit in the water with her eyes popping out of her head and meowing that strange gutteral worried meow So I'm no help at all with advice - sorry. Answer: It's hard to bathe a cat that is not used to it since they were a kitten. You can buy pet wipes- or just use a damp clothe with a little mild shampoo on it- give them a good brushing first- make sure they have somewhere warm to dry. I think a groomer would be very traumatic to them. It's hard enough getting some in the carrier when they need to go to the vet- I wouldn't want to give them more of a reason to fight it. Answer: I'll look in to the pet wipes, it's so much easier to give dogs a bath lol, thanx guys Answer: Well, I knw BB will freak out if the water is running or the drain is gurgling, but if I stop up the tub and run the water when she is not around and then place her in the tub, nice and warm water she will sit there and tolerate it. I use a plastic pitcher and scoop and pour water over her for wetting and rinsing avoiding her head and eyes. I have to keep one hand on her back just to let her know she cannot go anywhere until I am done with her. She also tolerates and (maybe even enjoys) being blown dry with the hair dryer. Now, if my son tries to bathe her, she growls and spits and claws. But he dumps water on her head and runs the water. I talk to her nicely the whole time and she seems to do much better. Good luck, though! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
