Worms!!

Question:
EEEWWWW My cats have worms!!! How disgusting! In the last month or so, they've caught 3 mice, and I think there's more so I'm blaming the mice. I saw a worm on my kitty's bum and it slithered back inside. EEWWWW This was about 9 pm Thursday, the closest vet is about 1/2 hour away so I couldn't get any meds until Friday.

$69. Can you imagine! To do two cats for two months was $29.76 and to do the dog once was $39.53.

I don't remember the meds being that much, I usually have a little envelope of pills in my cupboard but I must have used them all. I usually buy a bunch so I can do them often but being winter I guess I didn't replenish my supplies, both cats and dog were out of pills. I don't remember worm meds being so expensive?!? How did I ever keep a supply of them, I sure can't now at those prices!

Answer:
Do you give them heartworm pills? Heartgard and Interceptor also coverintestinal parasites. They are around $20 a supply for 6 months (for 1 pet) and they might help you control the worms. (If I'm not mistaken, heargard covers roundworms and hookworms interceptor cover these 2 plus whipworms... all of these are the most common intestinal parasites.)

Answer:
No, I don't think it was heart worm pills. That's not what I requested. I'm pretty sure the cats pills were the same as usual but the dogs seemed expensive and she had to take 3. Usually she only takes one at a time. I think they gave me something different. There's two vets that I go to. I think I went to the wrong one. One is cheaper for meds and one is cheaper for visits.....And then there's another one I have to go to for the gliders, I have to go there in Feb sometime to get my last boy fixed so I might price their meds while I'm there and get my supply. I just find that rural vets seem to be cheaper but I'm going to check on the vet in the city that sees gliders. I'm going to make note of the pills you mentioned, thank you for the inquiry. The cats pills are Drontol and I'm pretty sure that's what the dogs were called too, but I've thrown her bottle away as she's taken them all...

Answer:
well you need to treat the cats for tapeworm which isnt in any of the other deworming medications. thats what they are getting from eating mice. some vets charge so much for drontal.

Answer:
Ah, if they have the same medication, the dog's one is more expensive than the cats one cause, unless it's a very small dog, they usually need a higher dosage, which is more expensive than the smaller dosages... hehe. 8)

Answer:
Yeah, Zena's around 80lbs, my little porker. Maybe she should be on South Beach too, lol. I just broke up an encounter with my littlest kitty and a squirrel. I feed the squirrel so he's been coming around but I don't want my cats getting him or whatever could be in his poor little belly!

Answer:
Try using revolution it is great for fleas earmites ticks worms and heartworm. It is safer than a ingestable on the liver also worm twice with strongid 2 weeks apart. It sounds like pinworm which gross as they look are pretty harmless. But if they are tape worms you will have to move up to a dose of dorantil.
