Balding nose
Question: Help!!! I have been foster mom to my daughter's chinchilla since she went away to College in September. He is older than all my chinchillas. He is over 6 years old. Yesterday, when he came out of his hut to greet me, I noticed that the fur on one side of his nose is gone. I can see the whiskers entering his pink skin. The area does not seem infected or sensitive, just, well ... bald. I remember one of my chins having fungus but this doesn't quite look the same. Any ideas??? Answer: Is he rubbing it against the wire or hut and wearing it away? Is he with another chin that could be chewing at him? I have a boy here that has a bald spot on top of his head from a female chewing only that spot (I call him Clint - after my bald husband..) I would get a culture done for fungus just to be sure. Fungus does usually affect the nose and as you probably already know, can spread quickly. Keep us posted. Answer: Could you possably post pics of his face so we can see what it looks like?? Also you might want to call the vet and just let him look at the chinny to see if anything is wrong?!?! Answer: If it looks like it is rubbed off, and the skin looks normal underneath, then it is probably from the wire or a toy. I would watch it for a day or two and see if it changes. If it does, I'd have the vet look at it. Answer: It wouldn't hurt to put a tiny bit of tinacin in his dust bath. Answer: Ilse, that's funny ... what does Clint think of that ? elisevincent - any news ? Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
