Question:
My Chinchilla Gizmo passed away really suddenly last week and I'm really confused as to what happened as he was perfectly healthy and active.

I had let him out of his cage for play time as I do every night and he happily raced about the room for a few hours before I returned him to his home and when I left the room he was fine and munching on some hay but when I checked on him in the morning he had died.

Does anyone know what could of caused him to die so suddenly? He was only 5yrs old and had clean bill of health from the vets.

Hi Layla,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It's really hard to pinpoint a reason why he may have died. Could he have eaten something that wasn't good for him when he was out? Could he have fallen in his cage and hurt himself? A few hours seems like a long time to have him out for if he was running around the whole time. Perhaps it was too much for him. I don't know I'm just grasping at straws. The only way you could have found out what might have happened to him would have been to have a necropsy performed at a vet otherwise it's impossible to say.

Sorry to hear about your chin Chinchillas are very good at masking illnesses and injuries so maybe he was already sick and you just weren't aware

It is so hard to hear of one of our very loved fur friends to go so unexpectedly. But I am sure he felt very loved and cared for. Sometimes no matter how careful we are things happen that are out of our control
