rasins and fruits

Question:
Is it okay to give your chin rasins from the grocery store and are there any other kinds of fruits that are okay?
Thanks in Advance for any replies

Answer:
raisins are ok although in VERY small quantities. Other dried fruit that I've given before and are ok as a very occasional treat are papaya, pineapple, banana chips, and apple rings.
It's very important to control the amount of fruit your chinchilla gets because they cannot process sugar very well. Too much sugar can cause tummy upsets and diarhea if not controlled.
Some better treat options could be mini shredded wheat squares, rosehips, oxbow fruit or carrot pellets, oat groats, rolled oats, etc. If you do a search for "treats" on here you should find a bunch of threads discussing good chinnie treats too

Answer:
You can also give dried, cranberries, dried cherries, dried blueberries,
I try to get all of mine from a health food store, and get organic,

but said above, try not ot give to much, I give my chins these about 2 times a week, but mom s will get one dired cran, cher,or blue, aleast week before they are due, and 2 weeks after birth they will get one every day, so they dont get so constiapated, and to give them that extra boost when nursing,

Answer:
yes, PLEASE PLEASE don't give your chinny too many treats. About a tbl spoon a day is a good amount. Giving them too many treats can cause constipation wich can result in death. I just experienced that yesterday. So please not too many treats.

Answer:
even a teaspoon is too much treats. one small piece of whatever treats have been listed so far is more than enough.

Answer:
As state above you never want to give to many treats, as i said i only give couple times a week.
i do supplment my chins with 1 teasp a day, but mine are in breeding and they need the extra nutrition. When people buy chins for pets i tell them they only need the supplement 1/2 teap every other day. which i know doesnt seem like a lot, but to a chin it is a lot, their tummys are the size of a cherry or about that.
best wishes

Answer:
Even though they love raisins, you should only give them a half of one about once a month. It will cost major teeth problems. Here are some other treats that they will love and is good for them, in small quantites. Rose hips, burnt toast, non-frosted shredded mini wheats, dry oats(Quaker Oatmeal).

A half-raisin once a month is not a treat, that is an oddity!
