Thanx for yur help, those websites were awsome Missy6 Answer: Thanks Chinchillas are nocturnal for the most part, but I've found that if something exciting is going on they will gladly join in the fun. They do generally prefer to interact in the evening though. Cages vary in size but they recommend no smaller tha 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet for one animal. Ideally you would want something tall enough to put in shelves or levels for your chinchilla to jump around in. Our cage at home is 3'x3'x3' with four shelves, a hut and an excercise wheel. Anything above 3 feet should however have a solid floor seperating the height in case the chin falls. It is definitely better for you to go with either a breeder or a rescue for adoption since pet store chinchillas are not always the healthiest or most social and the price for them is really steep. Breeder chins vary in price according to colour and quality. Prices usually start in the $50 range and can go up to several hundreds. It is usually recommended that you go with a same-sex pair of chinchillas since they are social animals and can get lonely. Some can however live on their own if given enough attention. It all depends on the individual animal. A breeder should be able to help with all that. Since you are in Ontario, I think your best bet would be to check out the Ontario chinchilla association for more information and breeder resources. You can find their site here: http://www.ontariochinchillas.ca/ Answer: Yes, they are nocturnal, so it is best to let them sleep during the day and handle them at night. There are lots of different cage options. Some people buy cages and others build cages. Whatever type of cage that you chose, it should be fairly large and have a lot of vertical room because chichillas love to jump. Try doing a search for chinchilla cages and you will find lots of different pictures and discussions about cages. Good for you for thinking about a breeder.
