The captured kitten

Question:
Well, it's now official: Dougall (could be Mona?) is officially a lovemonster. When I checked on him this morning he had tipped over his litterbox and was at the front of the carrier. I didn't know how I was going to open the door and clean up the mess without freaking him out. Well, I needn't have worried. I opened the door and gently touched him with my hand (wearing mittens to protect myself) and he started purring and rubbing against my hand! He ended up slithering out of the carrier, rolling around, letting me rub his belly, purring like a demon the whole time! I totally lost track of time and ended up spending almost two hours with him!

He's still skittish, of course and not totally trusting, and I put him back in the carrier with his breakfast cos it's still too soon to let him loose again in the room, but the transformation is amazing. From the little wild being throwing himself at walls to a little lovemonster slithering along the floor putting his belly up for rubs! Needless to say, I'm pretty happy because I know for sure now that he has a chance to make a nice little companion animal for someone

I haven't given up on the second kitten. I'd gotten up early today to try to get him when Dougall surprised me by being such a lovemonster I figured it was more important this morning to encourage that behaviour.

Yippeeeee!!!!

Answer:
Thanks guys I can't really take much credit, though. I think what made the difference was getting him into that carrier so I was able to interact with him, rather than just peer behind and talk to him. Once he got used to me being so close and not hurting him, and realized that I gave him food, treats and toys, he loosened up and decided that I wasn't so bad, after all It's amazing - I put him into the carrier early Sunday afternoon, so that was extremely fast.

I just hope I can accomplish the same with the other little guy

Answer:
That is such great news! We've adopted several strays/ferals in the past, and I remember one my parents called "Claude" because he'd claw you! He ended up being the most affectionate, lovable creature you'd ever meet! He loved boofing his head up against yours, and was the most affectionate boy! Even when he was very old, he'd still grab you for a head-boof and a love! Sometimes all they need is just a little love shown to them, and they'll repay you with bucketfuls of their own love!
