aniamls in st john's,newfoundland need help immediatley

Question:
a friend of mine just sent out an email to all our groups that a lady in one of her groups is going to put down her cats..here is her email to me...
A woman on one of my forums is planning to put down her mother's 4 cats because they can no longer keep them. I don't know a lot of details about the cats, just that they have had one of them for 12 years. Does anyone here have any rescue contacts in Canada? She lives in a town in Newfounland. She agreed to let me try to find a way to re-home the cats before they put them down. I know it's a long shot but I had to try. Please let me know ASAP if anyone thinks they can help. Thanks!

Amber
can anyone help here?

Answer:
There is a list of SPCAs and shelters across Newfoundland at the bottom of this page: http://www.maritimeanimalrescue.com/contacts.shtml

Do you know in which town she is living?

What a shame that she can't keep the cats. I can't imagine sharing my life with a cat for 12 years and then letting it go

Answer:
she is in st john's. i think shelters were suggested and she said no.

Answer:
Has she checked with local vets? The ones here do (at least mine does) careful screening of potential adopters. She should really visit the shelters before saying no to them.

Answer:
She would rather euthanize her cats rather then give the shelters a chance? That's selfish of her...
I wonder how old the other cats are... No reputable Vet will euthanize an animal just because the owner can't keep it.. unless it's very ill or very aggressive that is..

Answer:
she says the nearest shelter is an hour from her and she can nto eb bothered to drive that far. she is getting very hateful. i think these poor babies are totally screwed. wish i knew someone up there, i would have them picked up and driven to the shelter. she is a real...........sigh, nevermind

Answer:
the only member I know of on this board that is from Newfoundland would be debbie. Maybe you can send her a pm to see if she knows of anyone who could help?

Answer:
I didn't want to say anything harsh, not knowing the situation, but I'll say it now. That woman sounds like a total and utter selfish insensitive uncaring *****. Would she kill her own children if she tired of them? I'm afraid that if she can't find a reputable vet to kill the cats for her, she'll likely do it herself. I wonder if the SPCA were called and told about the situation if they would go in and remove the cats from her so-called "care"? Those poor cats People like that make me sick to my stomach!

Answer:
Now that's one sick bird to do it herself, the vets here will keep them unless they are sick. They will find new homes for them.
I'd report her to SPCA.
And if she is in St. John's she's less than 20 minutes to any number of shelters.
Tell her to bring the to SunRise Animal Hospital.
Slap her first.

Slap her first!
