Chin not Eating
Question: I have a adult (13 months) male that when he was with his brother, he ate fine. I moved his brother into a cage with a female, and now the one by himslef has gone off food. He won't eat suppliment, only eats 4 or 5 pellets per day, and 1 or 2 peices of timithoy. He will take a treat, but as much as I've read, my critters only get one treat every 4 or 5 days. Any ideas to increase his appitite? Thanks Answer: Chances are that your chinchilla is depressed about losing his buddy. I think th ebest thing you could do is probably find him a friend or put him back with his original buddy. Answer: Chinchillas do not do very well when they aren't eating. Stasis can set in very quickly. If he is not eating, you need to be feeding him Critical Care or mash. Answer: Like Candice said, you need to get him eating ASAP. My Ziggy had only stopped eating for a day or two and it was too late to save him. I'd get your guy to the vet for a checkup and start him on Critical Care as soon as possible. Answer: Can you place his cage near his buddy? Most get over that in a couple of days from seperation, but like other have said getting him eating quickly is very important. Do you give him loose alfalfa? they tend to eat it even sick. Is he eating hay? They can go a long time on hay alone. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
