What kinds of scratching posts does your cat(s) use?
Question: Two of my three cats have claws (the declawed one is my boyfriend's, so I'm not responsible for the chopping of toes) and they love to scratch! I have a floor-to-ceiling carpet-covered one that is tied to the bunk bed (so they climb up to have a nap near the ceiling), a two-tiered round one with a funky, nubby carpet, and a big cardboard scratch board that resides in the bottom of the cats' special chest of drawers. My eldest also uses an old second hand chair. My youngest cat likes to scratch her nails on the window, which can result in an annoying squeaking noise. Answer: Our cats like to use the desk, the couch, of the rug as their scratching post. Little buggers are smart enough never to do it while we're in the room, though! So much for trying to get them to stop. They do have a scratching post which is shaped like an upside down triangle, covered in carpet, but they don't use it very often. Nikki Answer: My two cats use the end of the couch. I don't care though...it's only a couch (it can be replaced, they can't). They have two scratching posts- one is a castle with two levels and the other is a palm tree. It has real wood on the trunk and the leaves are green carpet. They only use it to help get them to the window sill though. My foster kittens really like the palm tree though. Answer: My cats have two posts...one is just a square base, a post and a square platform. The other has a ladder. Neither are very big but they get tons of use. I would love to build one myself...anyone have experience? Answer: Aspen uses the wall right next to his litter box.. and any cardboard box he can find. we tried using the "traditional carpeted" scratching post. he doesnt even pay attention to it. he also uses the bottom of the stairs. silly boy!! Answer: I have never ever seen Kahn scratch,,so i couldn't tell ya what he does but Kaymen will scratch any untreated wood,,,such as my tempoary hand rail,,,it was just built to hold a baby gate up,,and if shes locked in a room she'll scratch the walls,,,lol Answer: My cat has her little post its beige and square at the bottom with like I stairght stick standing up sorry bad at explaing it but she mostly uses the trees out side and once in awhile my couches Answer: The front left corner of one couch (the "bad" couch) and the back left corner of the "good" couch. Don't mind so much on the bad couch, but we try the spritzing with water thing when Datsun tries to scratch on the good couch As for Oscar, he's our inside/outside-I wish Datsun would leave me alone when I'm inside-cat, I've never seen him scratch anywhere.. but then again maybe Datsun doesn't leave him alone long enough.. we know Datsun doesn't leave him alone long enough to go to the bathroom so.. it's possible Answer: we have a plain little scratching post I bought for our one cat wtih claws. (other three were either done before we adopted them or were done years ago before we were eductated). I also put one of the sisal rope boards on the front of it, our none clawed cats and the clawed cat uses it, lol. Kitty also uses the carpet in my mom's bedroom, and a rug in our kitchen. It's nothing extravegant so she's allowed. Answer: I have cardboard, sisel and carpeted types but mine really seem to prefer the cardboard type over the others.
