How's Tinsel??

Question:
Just wondering how she's doing.........

Answer:
She's hanging in there! Thank you for asking Neuro
Her next vet visit is on Thursday. I think the vet wants to Xray on top of changing her cast/bandage.
Since we've gone form visits every 2 days to one visit per week, I have to monitor her leg closely. I have to watch for any funny oozing from the tip of the cast and have to make sure nothing is smelly. So far everything is going well. She's bouncing and trying to play like a normal chinnie and getting very upset that she's not getting playtime or regular dust baths. She's using her leg more and more regardless of the cast. She uses it as a support when she sits, scratches with it, bounces around on the cage walls, etc. She is also eating normally and her droppings are getting bigger again.
This all leads me to think she's going to be OK in the long run. The vet is truly amazed at her progress. He admitted he thought she would need an amputation but now his only concerns is to make sure the bone if fusing correctly.
i think TInsel is ging to be happy when all of this is over (so will we!). It's only been a little over a week and she's already getting grumpy at having a big cone around her neck and not being able to do her normal things. But as long as she's progressing I'm happy. We can get rid of the testiness later on

Answer:
I'm glad to hear Tinsel is doing well!!

Answer:
I'm glad to hear that she's doing so well. Tinsel is a lucky chilla to have such a good owner to take care of her. I hope the cast change today goes perfectly. How much longer does she need the cast?

Answer:
I think it's going to be at least another 2 to 4 weeks for the cast, but I'll know more today when we go to the vet. Tinsel is using her paw alot more though. (She even uses it to scratch her ear when the cone is off) This is leading me to believe that things ARE getting better.
I think the vet wants switch from a soft cast (basically half bandage, half cast) to a solid cast once her wound has healed. Because the bone was sticking out of her paw, the top layers have to heal before he encases the leg in anything more permanent than what she currently has. This avoid bacteria build-up and all that kind of stuff.

Answer:
Sounds like you have a great vet, I am glad Tinsel is in such good hands
