2 kit questions/1 mom question
Question: 1. Is it normal for one to surge ahead in weight...like Kandi weighs in at 161g, but Jubilee is already at 193g? They used to be around 9-10 grams apart 2. How old are kits supposed to be when they are weaned? And...how long after birth will the mom's milk dry up? Answer: Yes, that sometimes happens where one kit is considerably larger than the other kit. As long as she keeps gaining, there is nothing to worry about. Kits can be weaned when they reach 200 grams. After you wean them, make sure they continue to gain after you separate them from mum. If not, you will want to put them back in with her. Most of the time they do just fine when they reach 200 grams. As for when the milk dries up, that is a good question. Answer: Thanks Good lord, Jubilee could be weaned tomorrow she's such a cow! Answer: We usually wean ours around 7-8 weeks, as long as they are of a good weight. sometimes the kits tend to wean themselves...our wally was more interested in real food and pretty much weaned himself...his sister maggie was a mommas girl and it took us actually separating her from mom gradually to wean her. when the kits nurse less and less, i think the milk will start to dry up. the exact time when it dries up I am not sure of???
