A chinchilla running around in the house, can not find it

Question:
Well it's a very long story, when I lived at my mother inlaws house awhile back I had my chins, well one of them disappeared and I couldn't find her for the life of me, she is a sliver chin, and she was only 4months old. Well yesterday my mother in law said that she saw a sliver/white thing run in the laundry room, well I had Joe lift the washer and sure enough chin poo's everywhere but I just don't know where she is and I really want to find her and see what she looks like now. But what gets me is how on earth has she survived so long with out her food? If I do find her hopefully I will , I plan to keep her and we will be going to the vets and everything to check her, I have a cage left over still so it won't be a problem. Any advice on how to find her? and how she has survived this long?

Answer:
Wow Shannon, how long ago was this? I have no idea how this chinchilla has survived for so long without hurting herself and eating! I can't imagine what she is eating. It is obvious she is eating because you found evidence of poos. I hope you can catch her so you can take her to the vet. I can't imagine she can survive much longer in the house.

Answer:
Well it's been like 4months

Answer:
Shannon, close all of the doors and put a few raisins down in each room. If there are raisins missing in one of the rooms, you know that she's in there. Then it's just a matter of catching her. Good luck.

Answer:
Candice I can try but I don't want bugs everywhere LOL, have you read about my mother in laws? LOL From what I know she has to be in the area of the laundry room and basement. So thats all down stairs, I should look for her at night right? LOL I'm kind of scared to find her I don't want her to freak out LOL

Answer:
Oh ok, just read about the bugs. Do you have any dust? She would probably love a bath and if you put some on the floor, you could probably tell if it had been rolled in. I would love for her during the day personally, because then she wouldn't be so fast.

Answer:
I am praying for your sake that this critter running around is really the chinnie and not a huge rat or something
That will be an amazing story if it ends up being the chinnie! she's got quite the survival skills!

Answer:
I can't believe that chin would last that long! What a trooper. All I know from my experiences and what I have learned is that chins like to stay near the walls and that they hide behind and under things that are warm extremely well. Check under the fridge, behind (and inside underneath) the drier, behind wall radiators. Can you follow the trail of poos? I can't figure out what she would eat. Being nocturnal she probably goes on the search at night. Can you set some live traps? They are very effective when you put raisins in them.

Answer:
I can get some dust , I'm sure that would help me find where she is better, yeah I was thinking about looking for her in the daytime as that is when they sleep and I can find her easier since she probrobaly won't be on the move. But my mother in law just said that she knows it was a chin because she is so afraid of them and plus the poos I saw were chinnie poos but what I don't get is that they look like normal chinnie poos when I think since she hasn't been eating what she really needs that they would be small or something I'll keep you guys updated about it

Answer:
Check the walls to see if there is a hole in the wall... he could be living in the wall and coming out at night...there was an incident I know about and the animal was living in the wall for a few months...and the house at the time was completely empty (being renovated) so he must have had food stored in there from before.
