breeding sapphires
Question: I am looking in to breeding sapphires. I was wondering if there is some good web sites on what the risk are to this color and what is the best way to do it. I am getting a pure sapphire he mom and dad where both sapphire so I breeing him to a standerd sc/vc. I also want to get some more carriers so I am going to breed hikm with a medium ebony. I want to help strathin this wonderful color and I would like some in put on how to do that. Thank you so much Answer: Hopefully the Jags can answer this. I do know sapphires tend to have weaker fur and less conformation than other mutations but this can be improved. I would definitely start with only top quality sapphires for this type of breeding program. Answer: I do have good quality sapphires and my sc are of good stock also nice and big and blocky with greate fur. I gess what I am asking am I starting out right? I know they are weak I want to help to make them stron I realy think this color can get stronger with the right breeding. Thank you Answer: If you don't mind sharing, what lines are the sapphires out of? Answer: I will as soon as I get my male's card but my female is comeing from ChinsAreMe on CnQ but she is not hear yet eather and only a baby so I am not going to breed her till I know she is big enofe and at least 1 year old. The sc I am going to Ohio and going to the big ranches out there to look for them. I do know the male is from argitina and was shiped to Ohio and that person sold out of his chins and my friend now has him of whitch I will get him in Augest. Answer: It is hard to say what kind of quality a chinchilla is when they are less than 6 months old. That is why ranchers like to wait and see what quality their kits are before selling them. I do know Jenny has lovely chinchillas though. Answer: The only way to improve is with very good standards. The more mutations you cross the weaker they get. Answer: I'm far from an expert on saphs (actually, I know next to nothing) but if you're trying to improve the strain, don't add violet or ebony into the mix...they're weaker mutations anyway, and the more you deviate from standard, the weaker the chins will get. I'd stick with standards or beiges Answer: oops...somehow I missed jags post.. umm..what jag said! Answer: ok it is not a violet only she carries it also with standerd. I will be going to the ryerson's ranch and get a nice big standerd girl also and a boy for my little girl. thank you I did not know if the ebony would weaken the sapphire jean that much so I will put her with someone eles thank you.
