how old does the male have to be
Question: I was just curious because I hear of people talking about the females have to be a certain age or weight to breed,,I was just wondering how old a male has to be or does it also go by weight?? Answer: Brandy, as far as I know, males can breed begin breeding as early as 3 months of age. I am sure ranchers wait until the male has reached its "prime" which is roughly 9 months of age to see if they are good breeding quality. Answer: I usually wait until they are 8 months and a good size so they can handle the females. I had read that too young causes weak kits to be born and then there was dispute over this. I did hear a big rancher say to put them in breeding before they were a year old or you may not get them to breed. Answer: Charlie is close to 9 months and Livvie is a year.. so thats okay then from what you guys are saying right? I didnt realize there was a certain age that was preferable.. so Im okay then.. lol good question Brandy!!! Answer: Go for it! I'd say there would be some majorly cute babies in the future. Answer: I usually put my males into breeding at 6months old, although there was one case where a male fathered a litter here and he was 12 weeks old, long story there, but he continued to grow normally, and he is now one of my biggest chins, and his kits in that litter all turned out beautifully and are as big and beautiful as dad. The only reason I wait is in case a female becomes aggressive with him, I like him to be a decent size so that he can protect himself if she turns, those female hormones can be something else. As well, it is easier to tell the quality of the animal at that age then if they are young. Answer: well its the same in humans,,,human female hormones can also be somehting else,,lol Answer: lol so true Brandy... I didnt put Charlie with Livvie until recently since she wasnt a year old yet. now they live happily ever after.. (or until we have babies then Charlie might get beat up if Livvie has a temper.. hehe) Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
