Tinsel and Jigsaw

Question:
I had a good feeling tonight and decided I would introduce the girls to one another. So I descented my pet carrier, put vanilla on each chinnie's nose and bottom, and put the girls in the carrier together. I'm happy to report that it's been almost an hour an a half and the girls are still in there grooming each other and cuddling. There is still a bit of squeaking as they learn to groom each other but things eem to be going really well I was amazed at how well the vanilla trick worked!
I can't put the girls in the same cage yet because of Tinsel still having her stitches and all that but I will definately be letting them have supervised time together on a nightly basis until Tinsel is ready. The vet said she should be completely healed after 2 weeks so maybe I'll be able to put them in the same cage next week

Answer:
Sophie,
That is excellent! Isn't the vanilla trick incredible? I bet you can't wait until Tinsel is fully recovered from her surgery so you can permanently house them together.

Answer:
aw thats great news Sophie

Answer:
that is awesome. I hope it will work out. how do you do the vanilla trick. I know you put it on their noses and behinds.. but when I tried to put it on Charlie and Livvie neither one of them wanted me to get so close to their noses so it was almost impossible.

Answer:
Wow Solarsis, that's amazing!!!

Answer:
Both chinnies kinda fought me when I tried putting it on their nose but what I ended up doing is holding them close to my chest and holding their heads gently between my thumb and middle finger. Then I quickly just dabbed their nose with my vanilla covered index finger. They weren't impressed but I got the job done lol

Answer:
It's funny what scent-governed little guys chins really are!!! Vanilla!!!

Answer:
I wish someone would have told me about the vanilla trick a year ago It's godd that they got along so great

Answer:
OK I think I spoke too soon I put the girls together again last night and things unfortunately didn't go as well as the first night. Within 20 minutes of being together, there was fur flying EVERYWHERE!
I didn't put vanilla on them again and I think that's most likely the problem. Poor Tinsel got stomped on a few times and Jiggy had some fur coming off, but I checked both of them out and they are OK. Tinsel was so exhausted when I took her out. She slept on my lap for a good half hour and then just sat there and let me pet her for another 30 minutes. Jiggy went straight to sleep too once I got her back in her cage.
I think I will continue with the vanilla for a little while yet. I might have tried going too fastand the girls did not like it. Hopefully they will like each other soon!

Answer:
I hear that females are trickier to introduce than males, so it might take a bit of doing, but it's possible.
