whiskers

Question:
okay I was wondering if it is normal for a chinchilla to chew another chinchillas whikers??? I have the 2 standard babies in with Tigs and I have been noticing some of Tigs whiskers were broke off but never thought a whole lot about it and then last night I caught one of the grey babies chewing on Tigs whiskers,,is this normal?????????/
why is he doing this???

Answer:
I've seen that happen before with a few babies at the pet store. And I think Pam's Gyspsy does it to her mama. I'm not sure why they do it but I know it's not a rare occurance.

Answer:
That is somewhat normal. Chewing another chin's whiskers is usually a sign of dominance.

Answer:
okay thanks Sophie,,, I was just worried something was wrong

Answer:
okay thanks Candice......thats what i thought but have never seen it before ,,,my other chins dont do it,,,,could it be a baby thing??? like same as Gypsy and Isabella??? the baby is feeing these weird emotions and what not??? my adults have never done it thats all so I thoguth it could be a baby thing

Answer:
You still have those two little standards huh? I think someone's welcoming two new chinnies

Answer:
hehe,,,yah i stil lhave them I thought I had them both sold but they never came to pick them up I still dont think I want to keep them I wuld love to but i dont have the cage space at all for another cage set up and I would like to pair Tigs up with a beige (possibly Deja) so maybe I can get myself a Brown velvet

Answer:
yes Gypsy does it to Isabella. and I can definately see a "dominance" thing... or maybe a spoiled little baby chinnie that gets away with every thing!! she will steal the treats from Isabella too. she acts totally like a spoiled ROTTEN child!!!!!

Answer:
Chicklette did that to Chilly when she was about a month old. I think she just grew out of it so don't worry, it sounds pretty common. If Im leaning over in the cage Chilly will actually eat my hair. At first I thought she was just grooming and then noticed her chewing on a chunk of my hair, LOL. Maybe she's taking it out on me that her babie ate her wiskers so she had to eat my hair.

Answer:
hehe thats funny,,,I'm glad that its common
