Weird eye thing
Question: My old cat Maddie has suddenly developed a weird thing in her right eye, a sort of yellowish but semi-clear half circle at the bottom of her eye, partly obscuring the pupil. Any guesses as to what this is? We didn't notice it before the vet was here, so we didn't ask her about it. Is it a cataract? Answer: Is it her third eyelid? Sometimes after my cats wake up, it isn't completely retracted. Does it seem to be bothering her? Answer: No, its not the third eyelid, and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. It seems to be inside the eye itslf, rather than resting on the surface. It's fairly clear, just a thin glaze of yellowish or goldish color in a semicircle. Hmmm. Answer: i didnt even know cats had a third eyelid Answer: The nictitating membrane..or "third eyelid"...gives pets extra protection from foreign objects as it acts like a windshield wiper that sweeps from the inside corner of the eye across the eyeball. If your cat gets something in their eye or gets an infection in their eye...the third eyelid will be up until the infection is gone. Ludi..I've seen senior cats with those on the pupil..I'm not sure what they are but I think it's age related...I'd ask your vet just to be sure... Answer: Thanks. Answer: Keep us updated on Maddie when you have time Ludi! Answer: Good luck with your kitty Ludi! I love the pic in your avatar by the way Answer: iv never heard of that. Well good luck and i hope it isnt any thing bad Answer: The vet says the cloudiness in the eye is caused by a build-up of white blood cells from the infection in her sinus, or rather because of the infection - it's because she has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus that she has this condition. The vet gave me some drops to put in her eye every day. It's an irritation, but the vet did not indicate it would damage her vision permanently. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
