how to keep a young chinchilla happy.

Question:
most of y'all know that i have a 5month old chinchilla named spice. latly she's been getting bored. i have toys in her cage and everything but still she seems bored. any tips on keeping her happy?

Answer:
I would recommend a playmate. Chinchillas are very social animals and need companionship. I don't like having single chins - I find they get lonely and depressed unless you spend a lot of time with them. She's young enough too to give her a female companion if you don't want to breed.

Answer:
see i really dont want another chin. she already has a mate picked out. and i dont really want to get a third. for what happens when i do put sugar and spice together wants goign to happen to that third chin? but theres a chance i might get two more. this weekend when i go to the chinchilla siminer on my birthday.

Answer:
Now that you are out of school Kayla, maybe you could let her out to play more than once a day? Also, do you have a wheel?

Answer:
ah i am in school, year round. and yes she has a wheel. i just want the best for my chin.

Answer:
Have you tried something as simple as rearranging her cage? I find whenever Taboo gets bored with her current toys if I just change them spots she gets all excited and acts like they are all new toys again

Answer:
Candace, I was about to suggest the same thing Sometimes something as simple as adding tp roll or moving some chew toys around (or even hanging them upside down) keeps my chins occupied for a long time

Answer:
Sorry, I didn't realize you had a mate picked out for her already. Yes, rearrange the cage and maybe put her very close to her future mate, if possible. If they see each other, it would be some companionship.

Answer:
Lots & lots of affection. My single chin is perfectly happy. Also, I recommend a hammock & a pvc pipe.

Answer:
thanks for the tips. but if y'all have any more keep them coming.
