Meow?

Question:
Anyone else heard their chinchillas mew like a kitten? My Harley is whenever I talk to him. He got a bite taken outta him by a cagemate a few days ago (just a few scratches, he's fine) and I wonder if it's because he's a bit sore? He comes running up to the bars to meow to me. I asked him what he was trying to tell me, but he didn't say...:P

Answer:
I can't say I've ever heard them meow Freddy squeaks a lot (and he's a year old) but I really can't remember thinking I had a cat in the house

Answer:
I havent heard them meow... just about every other noise but no meow.. hear them bark all the time.. lol especially Gypsy

Answer:
I have only heard meowing during pain and exteme stress. If he's like every other male on the planet, he's probably looking for some sympathy, loving, and affection, lol.

Answer:
I've never heard meowing, but I have heard an almost purring sound before - kind of like chirping. They seem to do this when most content. I've heard enough barking too. My standard male believes it is his duty to alert the others to every car door being shut in a five mile vicinity I think. And now with the babies there's an occasional loud squeak - it's adorable. If you would like to know about the sounds that chins make and what they mean, there's this site: http://www.chinchilla-sounds.de/index_en.htm

Answer:
I agree with Isle. He is just being a big tit LOL! I bet he is just the cutest guy ever. Barking you should hear it around here I swear I am at the SPCA dog kennel. One starts they all go. Plus my gliders bark which sounds very funny. When the chins go the gliders follow. My next door neighbour must think I have a heard of dogs in here. To be on the safe side give him a raisin then he will feel a ton better. Works around here LOL!

Answer:
Poor little squeak! I have not heard any meow sounds, but I have heard a chirp that was almost like a meow. That happened when Wingnut stepped on his own tail running in his wheel. I laughed at him, and he glared balefully back at me, then turned his back to me and pouted. I was forced to take him out of his cage for a cuddle and a belly scritch. He did nibble my ear a bit, so I guessed he had forgiven me!

Answer:
I haven't heard them meow either but would love too
