I'm making a chinchilla wheel but I don't have a chinchilla
Question: Recently I have been making tons of wheels for hedgehogs and small pets, but a lot of people have been emailing me and asking for larger wheels suitable for a chinchilla. So far I have had two concerns. The wheel I have made is soft plastic, and I am concerned that a chinchilla would eat it up. Can you do stuff to prevent this- like putting a bitter spray on it or distracting them with chewy toys? Also, how much does a chinchilla weigh? I want to make sure it can hold one. Would a 16 inch wheel be sufficient? Answer: I don't think plastic would be suitable-no matter what you sprayed on it or what you tried to lure them with chins chew EVERYTHING. A good weight average on a chin (in my opinion) would probably be about 700-800 grams, but I know some get bigger. My largest chins hit at about 625-650. I think 16 inches is pretty common for chin wheels, but don't quote me on that. Someone else can help you more, just wait till someone else can post Answer: I would probably be interested in a wheel, if you could make one, but a soft plastic would not work for a chin... Answer: You would need to use round 16" galvanized feed pan which are near impossible to find now...if you find them and can make the wheels, please let me know! I'll be first in line to buy a few!
