Destructive chin and water bottle
Question: i know that I have mentioned this before, but Buddy has started to make a habit of trying to destroy his water bottle. Ever night, he pulls and pulls on it, trying to rip it off. Most nights he can't get it off, but he always gets one of his legs and his chest soaked with water-which I imagine, can't be good (not that he seems to mind). Is there anyway that I can get him to stop this? I'm hoping that he'll stop once we move into the new apartment and he can get some exercise (he can't now because the paint and wood in the apartment is just too old-and he does nothing but try to eat it.) Answer: LOL - Danielle, I have this problem on a rotating basis with almost all of my chinchillas. One suggestion might be to get one of the Lixit bottles with the flip lid. The holder bolts to the cage (well, it's not a bolt, but you get the idea) making it REALLY hard to budge the water bottle. It's also got a different type of tip, so it doesn't drip like the tips with the metal ball. Keep us posted on the little bugger Answer: I've never seen the Lixit bottles around here...I am interested in them though. The problem is that he pulls on the bottle by the tip, so I think that he would do it to any bottle. I do, however, need a bottle that will be less likely to leak all over him when he's constantly leaking on him... he just never learns!!! Like right now, he's all wet, but he's still pulling on the bottle. Argghh!!! Answer: These bottles won't leak like the others (tried and tested by my own little troublemakers) and it's much harder to dislodge. Let me look around for a photo of the bottle. Answer: Okay - here is the one I have, except that this one is 32 oz and I think mine is 16 oz. Although this valve attaches to automatic watering systems, it works the same way in the regular bottles. My chinchillas figured it out right away. Answer: Is the company located in California? Water bottles seem to be a huge problem with a lot of people. They look really sturdy. Answer: The ones from Edstrom are really great too. Same type of valves. Yes, it seems like it's all from the US. Answer: Ilse, can you get Edstrom bottles in this neck of the woods? I do need to get him a new bottle eventually because he did somehow break a rubber stopper on the inside of the bottle (my bf was able to rig the bottle so that it works fine, but a new one will be in the future.) Answer: Danielle, I think Stewarts Chinchilla Supplies sells Edstrom. I didn't see bottles listed but if they are suppliers, you can order them, I guess. I'm sure more people may be interested. I can't find my catalogue but you can email her at stewchin@albedo.net. Their number is 519-833-4659. They are wonderful to deal with and only charge actual postage rates. Great folks! You can check out www. BerryHillLimited.com too. I don't know what they have but have wonderful supplies and wonderful service. They are in ON too and their number is 1-800-668-3072.
