Cage wire spacing?

Question:
What is the biggest size of spacing thats safe for the sides of a chinchilla cage? Im talking for a full grown chinchilla not a baby. What size can they get out of?

Answer:
1"x2" is the largest I'd use for an everyday cage - I have a temp cage I use while I'm cleaning their other cages it has 1"x6" spacing. But, I think as long as one side of the wire is 1" it's small enough to keep them in.

Answer:
My cage spacings are about 2cmx10cm (originally cat cage) and it's just right so my adult chins can fit both their mouth and their paws through the bars to beg for treats And Trinity couldn't get out when she was 3 months old!

Answer:
The recommended wire size for all chinchilla cages is 1/2" by 1". This is what all the ranchers in Canada use. Anything bigger and you risk kits getting through the wire.

Answer:
Oops..forgot to add that my maternity cage has 1/2"x1/2" spacings, even the tiniest baby can't get out!
