Great news for GTA chin-luver

Question:
Today, while I went to Paws & Claws (in Markham one) to do a shopping for my chins, I realized that they do take special order. I asked them to order the Mazuri Chinchilla Pellets for me, since there is no shop sell Mazuri Pellets in GTA. (there's one in Oakville, but just too far away from me, & they do NOT ship petfood....) They sold me that they will order it if they can able to find a source..... I really hope that they can get it, since I really wanna give the best pellets for my chinchilla (which I can afford).
On the other hand, I have seen there is a Nutri-Cal sell in there also, but that's only for puppy & cat, if you wanna get the Nutri-Cal for your chin, you could make a special order, they are always welcome it.

Answer:
Great to hear! Hope they can find a supplier. Oxbow is available in Toronto, isn't it? Also Nutri-Cal isn't a big necessity. Chins should get all their nutrition from a good pellet and quality hay.

Answer:
Wow, I hope that everything works out for you...that would be so convenient! Even if they ship it in from Oakville, it will probably be cheaper than if you shipped it in yourself because they probably get some kind of business discount.
Also, about Nutrical...as far as I know, there is only the one for cats and dogs. That is the one that you give chins. There is no special formula for chins unless I am WAY out of the loop.

Answer:
there is a ferret formula according to my vet but he said the cat and dog one is more than fine (and way cheaper) for chinnies. I keep nutri cal on hand (especially for Tinsel) but only use it when regular food and pellets is not helping weight gain or after a surgery like Tinsel had.

Yea.. Oxbow is available in Toronto, and I have already been to one of the retail store, but all of the pellets has already been expired

Oh my goodness, you won't know how much knowledge of chins that I can gain from here You all make me start to become a chin-professor (just kidding :P)
Anyway, I guess the longer that I gonna stay here & browse around = my chin will become more & more happier

Answer:
Yikes. Expired?? I wonder if Oxbow knows this. If you can't get Mazuri, just ask the retail store to provide up to date pellets. Most stores should be embarrased to carry expired stuff!

Answer:
Thanks for the info about the ferret Nutical Sophie.
Bebe, that is correct. Nutrical is usually only used for sick, thin, or pregnant chins. I also keep Nutrical on hand and occasionally (maybe once a month) give my chins a little drop as a treat. One has to be careful about how much Nutrical they feed to a chin as it contains fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) which are stored in the body. Feeding too much Nutrical can cause a toxicity. However, given occasionally, this is not a problem.

Answer:
Bebe, when I had chins I bought Oxbow from The Links Small Animal and Bird Vet and it was quite fresh.
Where is Markham is the store you went to? I'd like to go check it out I live on Bathurst and Steeles so I'm right next to Markham already, hehe
