Welcome to www.tendlife.com !!!

Um, I came home with an extra chinnie....

Question:
Yes, the person that always lives life best when everything is planned and doesn't like to do anything too spontaneous actually came home with not one but two chinnies.
To start off, I had an incredible day. My friend bought me a beautiful photo album and made two cd's for me. We made great time to MI! Hubby really hauled ! It helped we had a radar detector too. We stopped and had a bite to eat and then headed on over to the breeder's house. The breeder was showing us through her barn and I finally got to see my tan girl in person. She is just gorgeous! Her colouring is incredible and she is a nice size for her age. Her parents are just amazing too so I know she will grow up to be a fine young lady. After she took the tan girl out of the cage, showed us her parents, she said, "Just to show you, you never know what you will get, take a look at her brother". She took her brother out from another cage and my husband's jaw dropped. He is a stunning possible TOV ebony and a big boy at that! My husband asked if he was on sale and the breeder said he was and I can tell by the look in my husband's eye he wanted to take him home. I told my husband I would have nobody to put him with and I don't know where I would put him in the chinnie room because everyone is paired up. So, immediately I said, "NO"! We talked to the breeder for quite some time about the setup of her barn and the planning that was involved and I could see my husband eyeing the cage where the ebony was. He kept dropping innuendos like, "God, he is just amazing" and "What a cute little guy, are you sure you don't want him"? Well, that did it, I asked the breeder if I could hold him and I knew right then and there I was taking him home with me. Hubby was actually a bad influence! I have named him "Shadow" and his sister will be named "Lexus" (hubby picked it out).
Shadow is EXTREMELY lovable and loves to be held. Lexus is a little spitfire and can not sit still for a second. She is very friendly but a lot more independent than her brother.
I have them in the same cage for a couple of days but I have to separate them because even though the breeder said the chances of the girl becoming pregnant are very slim, it isn't worth the risk. I am quite sad that they will be alone and Shadow won't have a mate with him after he is quarantined. I am debating on where to put him in the chinnie room because all four cages are full and the chances of three males getting along is risky. I could separate Noel and Delilah's cage and have him live on the second floor or keep him in a smaller cage and put it on top of Tweety's cage but I don't know....
I think I will be asking for advice here.
I can't say enough good things about this breeder and I have bought two chins from her previously and was very happy. She is very knowledgable and we chatted in her house for a good 2 hours. And her chinchillas are just gorgeous!
So, that was my day!

Answer:
What a great story. It must be great to have a partner who loves the chins as much as you do!! At least you can quarantine Shadow & Lexus together (same room) so they won't be lonely, & give them stuffed animals to ease the pain of living alone, if you want to call it "pain". (Cub lives alone & is very happy, so it CAN be done. ) Best wishes for the chins. It sounds like you had an *exceptional* birthday!!

Answer:
What a great birthday. I would have enjoyed being a little bird on your shoulder watching your day--it sounds like you had a great day. It will be very cool to see pics when you have some...hint hint...
Speaking of hints, I've been hinting at hubby that a new chinchilla would be an excellent 40th b.day present for me, but he keeps trying to be logical and point out how all our cages are already taking over the house. Logic has little to do with love if you ask me...besides, I have been thinking about designing and building another cage...
Thank you for the great story!
