Quick Question

Question:
Okay this is on urinary tract infection. When they have this, is the pee yellow right? Will it as well stink and leave their fur yellow?
Thanks all
Cheryl

Answer:
Yes, the pee is usually discolored and strong smelling. I would get to the vet ASAP. Good luck.

Answer:
yes because a guy who runs the pet store in Saint John has pet chinchillas also, he doesnt sell them but loves them anyways one morning he noticed a smell, checked her and noticed her fr was yellowish looking, he figured it was a UTI, called his vet, the quickest he could get him in was the next morning, he figured shed be okay
went in the next morning to get her and she was already dead, they opened her up and she had some sort of vaginal infection(dont remember the name) but there was no signs until the very end

Answer:
Their pee is always yellow though, and smells of ammonia. As for staining, it could be a number of things. It's safest to have it checked out asap to rule out UTI. Let us know what the vet says..

Answer:
Okay all chinnies are on septra now. They are doing okay. I am not very impressed by all this. The one had a baby the day they came home. Which was no biggy, but I am very amazed she has made it this far. Doing well though and gaining. Okay nother question for ya have you ever had a chinny squeel when picked up? If not or if so what could this be? Thanks guys I was just making sure I knew what I was dealing with here. Always good to double check.
Cheryl

Answer:
What kind of squeal are we talking about here? I do have one who makes a grumpy, squeaky kind of squeal when I pick him up before he is ready for playtime to end.

Answer:
No this is a hurt kinda squeel. It is nasty but she seems to be doing better today. The lady I got them from picked her up by the tail okay and then she kinda screamed is a better word. As well she was preggers and had the baby the next day. Could that be why?
Cheryl

Answer:
so is she nursing??? maybe her nipples are really sore so when you pick her up it hurts,,,,
could the placenta or another baby still be in there and causing her pain??? or maybe she has an infection from giving birth
I dunno,,,hopefully someone else can help you Cheryl

Answer:
Yes she is nursing. No this is from before she delivered. I checked her very well. It is just that I have never in my time with chinnies heard one screem or sqeel. (spelling bites). Could a UTI cause that kinda pain? All are doing very well now and seem to be much much better. Thanks everyone for all the help.
Cheryl

Answer:
I think if somebody picked me up by the tail, I would scream too! (Well, if I HAD a tail, at any rate.)
