What do you think of this feed?
Question: Here's the ingredients and guaranteed analysis... Guaranteed Analysis: Crude protein (min) 18.0 % Crude fat (min) 2.0% Crude fibre (max) 15.0 % Sodium (act) .35% Calcium (act) 1.6% Phosphorus (act) 0.8% Vitamin A (min) 18000IU/KG Vitamin D (min) 4000IU/KG Vitamin E (min) 115IU/KG Ingredients: Alfalfa, barley, soya bean meal, wheat screens, peas, oat groats, canola meal, dicalcium phosphate, lime stone, whey powder, salt, canola oil, methionine, yeast, fortified vitamins, vitamin C Answer: Not impressed. What kind of vitamins? Lime stone? What are wheat screens? Answer: Apparently wheat screens are the outer shell of wheat. From http://education.vetmed.vt.edu/Curri...upplements.htm Limestone (Ca carbonate, Tums) 39% Ca Answer: From http://www.culinartinc.com/nutrition_news/oct_2003.htm Fortified...Vitamins or minerals were added to the food in addition to what was in the food before it was refined. Example: vitamin C for juices, vitamin A for milk, iron and B-complex for cereals. Answer: I like the high fibre/high protein numbers, but don't know why limestone would need to be added to a feed. Are you going to keep us in suspense? Which feed is it? Answer: I'm assuming that the limestone is for calcium. The feed is one that is custom milled in Alberta. Answer: Limestone would be for calcium. I'm not a canola fan, as this is a pesticide-laden, hightly gm crop. Wheat screens would be fine I'd think, it's extra fibre for the chins. Would I feed it? Not as a first choice, but if other local options were Sunseed, L&M, Chin Chow Checkers, etc. , why not. I'd give it a "B" rating, with "A" being APD/Oxbow & "F" being the other brands I mentioned. ALL IMHO. Answer: I'd want to know what it's preserved with. I see no Vitamin E or tocopherols or even BHA/BHT Ethoxyquin ... What's the shelf life and how often is it milled? Answer: Funny when this exact ingredient list was posted under Canadian Pellets on August 27th, many of you said wow, great ingredients, can't wait to try it! Carleen Answer: That is why I moved it Carleen...it didn't get much attention. Is this the same list that you have? As Jade mentioned, it seems short and missing preservatives.
