crabby chin
Question: hi everyone. I have a female chin that has a 2.5 mth old female kit.. Since last week the mom has taken to attacking her mate with a vengance. I also noticed Charlie (dad) mounting the baby.Penny(mom) has been very aggressive towards all chins except baby. This is not her first kit. This couple has been togethor 5 yrs. They have never acted like this..I have taken dad out of the family cage.He is not happy living in cramped quarters.I think maybe one of the other chins in the other cages is in heat and Penny doesn't like this...I'd like to take this opportunity to pair Penny with another male..but....would hate to risk it when she is being so mean.. Answer: Is it possible that Penny is in heat? Answer: Believe it or not it is also possible that baby is in heat too. I HAVE heard of rare occasions where chins that young get pregnant! This could be part of the problem. Good thing dad was removed. Answer: OMG, I didn't even see the part about the dad being with the baby. I would seperate the baby and the dad for good. Females can be sexually mature anywhere from 12-16 weeks. Answer: Penny is not in heat..or at least I don't think so...Maybe Ruby(baby)is..Penny started to get her nose out of joint when my new chins arrived but nothing like this. She wants to kill Charlie....More chins brings more fun, variety, andTROUBLES! Yikes it really was much easier with one pair of chins. But they are worth it...Maybe I need to seperate cages so that they are not in one room.Or maybe I should seperate them and take advantage of the fact that they are fighting and try to encourage swapping males.See I was given two chins mom(Zoey) and son(Prozac).I'd ,for obvious reasons like to split those two up ..So maybe Charlie needs a new mate and Penny and baby will live togethor until her attitudeor mood changes. Answer: It is very common for females to be moody and cranky. Hazel attacked her mate when she was in heat and probably would have killed him if the previous owner wouldn't have stopped her. Maybe Penny needs a break from her mate, as you mentioned. Answer: The baby and the father are separated correct? Answer: Yes ,Charlie is in a cramped cage all by himself...Although he gets free run time most of the evening in the rec/chin room...Even this has been difficult because the chins are fighting and peeing through the bars at each other Suzan Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
