Kidney Failure
Question: I'm looking for personal experiences from anyone that has or has had a cat with chronic renal failure. My cat, Bones, was diagnosed a month ago at the age of 9 1/2 years. I've joined support groups and been to websites but the information out there is overwhelming. I'm looking for personal experiences. Length of survival after diagnosis, treatments, anything... thanks Answer: Brenda, I understand the overwhelming feeling that comes from all of the information out there! When Syd was sick, she was slightly anemic and most of the information we found on anemia was from CRF sites. I do not have any personal experience though. You are a member of TCS, right? :crossfingers: I'm sure that the members there will have a lot of experience and great information (they always do!). From what I have read about CRF, most everything depends on the cat. There doesn't seem to be much of a standard procedure. Have you changed foods? Answer: Thanks Candice Yes, I feed him different kidney diets such as Purina NF and SD K/d. Now apparently some people believe that the low protein is not good. It is very confusing. Of the TCS site, I got the KatKarma list that spells out which food are low in phosphorus, which is very important. I sure wish it were updated though. I feed Science diet senior and felidae, some foods that are not as low in phosphorus as the kidney diet but low enough and hopefully with more protein. I'm going to start a notebook this weekend and muddle through all the information that I've been given LOL So far he seems to be doing well with diet and suq q fluids. Answer: I'm glad that he's doing well. I noticed the same when I was looking for the anemia information. Keeping a notebook is a great idea...then you can tailor his treatment to his individual needs. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
