baby is hungry and injured

Question:
I posted 10 days ago to tell of my new beige kit...Well things aren't going well...I went to check on momma and baby to find the baby's tail looks almost skinned' or half of it anyways.Mom seems not to be interested and isn't feeding her kit. I have started to bottle feed and just wanted to know if anyone has helpful hints..I tried using the canned milk and water solution.I also have human formula at home and frozen breast milk.Anyways baby is now eating and running around.Put polysporon on its tail to prevent the wound from sticking to everything..Hope that maybe tommorow I can take baby to a vet.Even though vets in this area don't exactly specialize in chins....Any helpful hints would be appreciated thank s.

Answer:
I don't have any hints, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that mom will take more interest in her baby.

Answer:
A lot of people have success with 50% goats milk and water with a pinch of baby cereal. Make sure it is warm, not hot, and place a drop on the baby's lips using a small syringe or an eyedropper. Do not squeeze it into baby's mouth as they may aspirate (fluid in lungs). You should be feeding every 2 hours around the clock.

Answer:
First off, I want to say I am sorry things aren't going well with your kit. I suggest getting a glass eye dropper instead of feeding the kit from a bottle. A dropper will give you better control over a bottle. Plastic also works but kits will sometimes chew it. I suggest using goats milk undiluted. Some people also use whole milk. The overwhelming choice seems to be goats milk though. I would feed every three hours to make sure baby is getting enough. Oh, I forgot some people use Dyne (I think that is what it is called but I never used it) and mix it in with the milk as an extra boost. The only place I know of that carries it is ChinWorld but I would hope you can get it from somewhere else.
Good luck with your kit and I hope all is well.

Answer:
Suzan if I remember correctly you are in Vancouver, right? If so, there is a TERRIFIC exotics vet in Surrey. Her name is Dr. Sharon Prus and she is the vet at the King George Animal Hospital. I don't have the telephone number handy but they are in the Newton Village Plaza over there. Dr. Prus is extremely knowledgeable in exotics. I highly recommend her even though she might be a little far from your location.
I'm sorry to hear your kit is having trouble

Answer:
Please keep us updated It's so hard when you have to deal with a sick or injured kit.

Answer:
hey thanx for the vet tip. It really is not that far from Chilliwack..The kit is eating well now ..I worry about infection..I am going to use a solution that my father uses on goats and sheep for wounds...Can't remember the name but it is purple and covers the wound to disinfect..Farmers use it.I thought it was iodine but, thats not it either.Iodine hurts...poor kit.The wound looks the same.Has anyone ever had a mother injure its kit?I have never and I am unsure of how this injury happened..Why does it's mother not want it?Well anyways..just wanted to make sure the kit was getting enough nutrients...Oh. I am also using a hot water bottle under a receiving blanket.. The kit snuggles in its warmth after eating. It seems pretty lively today..Yesterday it did not look well and it kept squeeking.Well wish me luck...Will keep you all posted and thanks for the advice...

Answer:
I don't have any experiance either, but I thought I would just say that I am keeping the little one in my thoughts and prayers and I hope she will make it through okay!! Please keep us updated on her, goodluck.

Answer:
Poor baby. I would also stick to whole undiluted goat's milk. It's the universal milk and kits can thrive on it. The hot water bottle is a necessity too. Good luck. Sounds like she's in good hands.

Answer:
The chin took a turn for the worst early this morning and passed away.I beleive this would have happened regardless.I knew that tail was in bad shape. It drank and became quite spunky yesterday evening..Early this morning it just looked listless and would not eat..I knew when I picked it up that it would not make it but l somehow hoped it would.. Well thanks for your help.I hope that this was just bad luck for Zoey(mother)and not a regular occurence.I was given her when she was pregnant and no that she had stillborn kits before. She is so calm ,friendly and beautiful.
