pheobe the grumpus

Question:
i have a new ole lady, pheobe.
she is a dark grey calico, with just a few splotches of orange here and there and a white splotch under her front legs and under her lower belly with an orange splotch in the mddle. she is 14 years old.

she was advertised on craig's list for st louis. then someone contacted me about her and so i contacted the owner who is in san diego, i think. the owner wrote me and said that she moved and pheobe was still in her apartment in st louis and needed a home asap. she gave me her "friend's" email address. all further contact was through her. a lady who worked with her in st louis would bring her to me. the lady basically threatened to put pheobe to sleep if a home was not found. after several hateful emails, i agreed. i got pheobe and she was very odd acting. her inner eyelids were up part way and she wanted my attention, but was vomiting and then proceeded to rip me to shreds. literally. stitches and cuts later, we were home and pheobe was in her own small room with a litter box, food, water, and her carrier. the next day, i decided to go into her room and lay on the bed with a book and pretend i was not sure i was about to have a new trip to the hospital. she came right to me. wanted my love, and then would hiss with every rub. turned out they gave her a people sedative to get her to me and it made her nuts. after a couple of days, she settled. then i moved her to a different bedroom that had a sunny window and more noise and a little more traffic and left the door open part way. she is very sweet but is not friendly to the other cats.just moving her to the other bedroom made her hissy for two days.

i got an email a few days ago from the original owner. she did not even know i had the cat. and i was supposed to get a case of food, litter, a littermaid litterbox, a $200 climbing jungle, a box of toys, vet records, and some medicines. and pheobe looks horrible. bad dandruff and a hanging flap of skin from her belly. diane, the owner, said the pheobe was a fatty girl and healthy as can be a month ago! she is furious and upset. she has had pheobe since she was 16 and trusted this person to do the right thing.

i was going to take care of pheobe and then find her a nice old lady or whatever, but now i know she will not leave me. she could not handle it again. she is just too old. i am working on introducing her to the other cats so they do not have to be split and so i do not have to sleep with one set one night and then her the next etc. the cheapy digi cam went poof, so as soon as i get another, i will send pics.

Answer:
old deAr...did i mention STITCHES? LOL

just kidding. she is sweet. just old and grumpy. she has the stubbornest chin i have ever seen. but she is my bathrom buddy and loves her stick with feathers on the end. she has her own grannyish charm. and she definately knows the sound of the can opener, so her old meowmy must have spoiled her with canned food. once i realized why she was under foot, she got canned chicken. she loved me for that. i can not wait til she blends with the others, i hate the bed in "her" room. sleeping in there so she doesn't feel lonely is killing my back!

any advice on other ways to intro her is welcome. right now i am allowing them all a few hours evey ngiht together and if they hiss, they hiss. sigh. feel like it will never happen sometimes. i want a big happy kitty family.
