What are they doing?

Question:
Felix and Snurr spent their playtime tonight trying to mount eachother, and they havn't been doing any of that for over a year. And for the last week or so I have been woken up at least once every night because they were arguing, but every day they snuggle up together in their corner as if nothing has happened. So what's going on... is it puberty or something? (they are both 2.5 years old, and I don't have any females)

Answer:
Have you given them a new toy or treat? I am in the process of changing pellets and now the boys are fighting (ie. mounting each other) to get access to the bowl. I added another bowl last night.

Answer:
Lisa, that sounds EXACTLY how Griffin and Baxter behave with one another! Every evening one tries to mount the other, I hear them going back and forth, wake up to Baxter's fur in the cage but there they are peacefully sleeping together in their nestbox. I have noticed Griffin often charges at Baxter to get him off a ledge or a space that he wants to occupy and then a few minutes later Baxter attempts to mount Griffin to retaliate. Their behaviour is not aggressive and I would certainly know if they meant to harm one another.
Lisa, the only difference between your boys and mine is that Griffin is only 8 months old and Baxter will be two next February.

Answer:
Nope, no new treats or food. They had a week of nightly fighting a month ago but I never saw any mounting then. It wouldn't concern me much but Snurr's fur is starting to look a bit uneaven .

Answer:
Hmmm, I have a theory about what they are doing. The arguing usually starts at 6.30 am, and that is around when I used to get up when I had to go to school and work last summer. And when I got up they were starting to settle down after the night. Now I usually don't get up until after 10... could the change in routine be making them bonkers? I know it's been a few monthes since the new routine started but chins are wierd sometimes . Oh, and when they start arguing I usually just get up and turn on the lights in the kitchen and then they'll calm down.
