Where do you all keep your chins?

Question:
I really want to get one but hubby won't allow it to be kept in the house. He says they make a mess and dust flies everywhere from the sand baths. When i had them before in our old house i kept them in the back room, it was so handy, but here i have no back room and i don't want it in a shed. He is being mean to me, first he refused me another cat, then a ferret and now this.

Answer:
I keep mine in the living room. I find it is way more fun for them since they get to be part of the action all day and we can talk to them while doing other things. However I DO have to vaccuum up every day as they like to play lots and end up flinging pieces of shavings everywhere. The sand CAN get messy but I usually keep a cleaning cloths handy and clean things off as I notice the dust. I only have two chinnies so it stays manageable

Answer:
My chins are in the spare bedroom. Tracey, I am probably the biggest clean and neat freak there is and I don't find my chins to be that messy. As long as you keep up the vacuuming and dusting, it isn't unmanagable. I vacuum everyday and clean the tellie and other electronic gadgets on a daily basis. Since I got an air purifier, it has helped alot in cutting down on the dust and fur that is in the room. Some people dust their chins a few times a week, I do not do this (especially in the winter). Unless you are showing your chins, once a week is sufficient.
I think as long as you are the one that is repsonsible for taking care of the animal and keeping the room where it lives, clean, your husband shouldn't have any objections.

Answer:
One of my cages (the boys) live in the family room and the other cage (the girls) live in the spare room. The girls are a bit more high strung so I like that they are left alone by the cats. The boys are hams and love to be in the family room. I also clean everyday. I have a sort of kickboard at the bottom of the cage to keep the shavings in and I have also had success using 1/4"X1/4" wire. I usually dust my chins in the bathtub. It has full length sliding doors so it contains them and the dust. After, I just use the shower to clean up.

Answer:
I have a great spot to put one, just need to creep round hubby now.

Answer:
I did keep my first chin in the living room for a couple of years ,,,well as the numbers grew I had to create a new space for them.Sooo they now have their own room

Answer:
In our new townhouse, all the chins are kept in the finished basement but before when we lived in an apt, we kept one cage in the living room and one in the guest bedroom. the chins are so much cleaner and less smelly than my rats are...I guess since i have the rats to compare them too...they all seem like angels. As for the dusting, we used to block off the hallway, let them dust in there and then all I had to do was vacuum up (we use the bathhouses so less dust flies everywhere). the boys were in the living room and I didn't even have to vaccum everyday..we have a drop pan in their cage so we never had to worry about bedding flying. I did have to pick up extra poops on the floor but it wasn't anything bad. good luck with the hubby!
