Cats and Christmas Trees
Question: Hey guys, Last Christmas, our cats decided they wanted to climb in the lower branches of our Christmas tree, knock ornaments off, and chew through the wires on the lights. Luckily we got plastic ornaments that don't smash, and the lights are always off if we're not in the room so no one got a shock. But I was wondering how I could deter the cats from doing the same this Christmas. Any ideas? Answer: I've never had cats so I can't offer any advice, but I hope you figure something out! Answer: I think it is almost impossible to keep the cats from playing with the tree. My cats are pretty obedient but they would sneak under the tree when I wasn't around. The most you can do is make sure it's sturdy, and that there are no breakables. Maybe spray some Fooey or something similar on the wires to keep them from chewing. Answer: Aspen hasnt bothered any of our trees... the most he would do is sniff it and rub his nose against some of the bottom branches.. Answer: Pam, Aspen is extremely well-behaved! Our first cat climbed into the tree and managed to ruin it. The two cats my mom and dad have now are too tempted by the ornaments and my mom and dad would wake up to ornaments all over the place. They haven't put up a tree in a long, long, time. Answer: The only deterrent I have found is ammonia. I filled lots of recepticles full of it and put under the tree. Unfortunaley it didn't look very good and didn't smell very good so I just gave up christmas trees. ----Cathy Answer: I bought a tree that hangs on the wall! Problem solved! Answer: I bought a tree that is 3' tall with plastic ornaments...they love to play with it. Answer: my cats only like taking the balls off the tree so i make sure i put unbreakale ones on the lower branches Answer: Our cat liked the crocheted snowflakes hanging in the bottom branches, we were constantly finding a few "misplaced" in the mornings last year. At least they weren't breakable. Haven't got any thing other than the lights up so far this year- we shall see if she is interested or not. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
