white teeth???

Question:
The visiting mom chin that I got from my friend, I noticed today that her teeth are not so yellow anymore. She is not nursing the kits (just keeping them warm b/w rotations), we have given her loose and cubed alfalfa hay, calf manna and cuttlebones since she has been with us. Her poos are normal, she is drinking well and I have seen her gobbling down the hay. So how do I get even more calcium in her to make her teeth more yellow/back to normal?
Thanks

Answer:
I usually mash up some tums or calcium tablets and roll a raisin in it. Hope that helps. If her teeth aren't back to normal within 4 days I would take her to a vet.

Answer:
The Tums are okay and the fruit flavored ones are usually a hit. If they don't like that, I soak them in a bit of molasses. It just flavors the tablet, and doesn't add much sugar at all. It will take a lot longer than 4 days to get their color back though.

Answer:
sometimes if the chin is chewing alot of things (hopefully wood) the yellow can wear off. it happened to one of my friends chin (the chin was a master wood chewer). but tums are good to try. it will take alittle while for the color to come back, but if you feel uneasy about it a trip to the vet wouldnt hurt.

Answer:
Hmm, I have heard that once the teeth are white, there has been a calcium deficiency for awhile. Perhaps you should consult with a vet about the best course of treatment.

Answer:
Thanks everyone for your advice....I will try the tums (we have the fruit flavored ones at home) and wait to hear from my friend about how she wants to proceed (she might want to come and pick up her baby) and since I have to go back to the vet with Kelley soon, I will probably take Sassy along for a checkup if she is still in my care

Answer:
Sounds good In my previous post, I didn't mean to make it sound like colour should come back within 4 days.

sorry for sounding little thick but tums??? what are they

Answer:
Tums are a human antacid. But they contain calcium carbonate which is thought to be a good source of calcium.

Answer:
I gave Sassy the tums tonight...she nibbled on it a bit. She is racing around the playpen right now so we will see if she will eat more of it tonight for me
