dust
Question: I have a question re: dust.....the first dust i bought did not create much dust in the air.......but i cant remember what kind it was....came in small packages. The dust i currently have is unmerciful...~hack hack~ I finally got one of those dust houses as Koke LOVES to bath...and bath.....and well you get the picture. I think Ive got the cleanest chin in town. remember im a new chin mommy so i need all the help i can get. Just ordered a hammock from.....umm.....sorry i forgot her name.........i cant wait!!!! Answer: The dust you are referring to is most likely the SuperPet bath sand. It is great for people with allergies. I usually only give my chins 5 minutes in the bath every other day (or every third day during the winter). Too much dusting can cause dry skin. However, since you are in Florida, you can probably dust Koke every day. Answer: well i leave his bathhouse setup in his cage........he seems to get in maybe twice a day now.........whereas before he was in there constantly....i guess the newness wore off anyway i just hate the dust im using..........i have a film over everything in my bedroom..........ACK!! Answer: taking out his dusthouse and only giving it to him sparingly will help that out alot, mine are in the living room, twice a week they get their bath, I just hold up the dust house and they jump in and out, you can out a sheet over the cage to keep the dust in , but the dust stays in the shavings and you will still get a timy bit around the outside of the cage, but usually the day of the bath and the day after and then no more,,,OR they get their bath when they have playtime in the bathroom, that way the dust stays in the bathroom, I put them back in their cage, all is well,,,sweep up the bathroom and then the dust mess is done until next time Answer: thanks.......i may have to take out his dusthouse........and do the twice a week thing. I noticed that he has a few matted fur clumps near his rump.......am i suppose to be combing or something.......or is this normal????? Answer: You can comb them out or remove them by using a scissors. What are the clumps from? Answer: yah I am not sure about the clumps,,,,none of my chins have ever had them Answer: My chins get clumps every now and then, and someone told me it was easiest to just pull them out. But I guess it depends on how close to the skin and how big the clumps are. Answer: The first dust you bought, was it sand? 'Cos they sell chinchilla bath sand at the petstore in small boxes here, the bath dust is usually in a can. Answer: I would definitely suggest taking the bath out of his cage. Not only will it help keep the dust down, but it will also keep his cage and the dust cleaner. CJ, the sand here comes in boxes too but when you open it, the sand is individually packaged inside.
