Question:
after reading alot of your posts......its seems to me that my Koke is not real tame..........he doesnt let me pick him up........its like a mad chase. if i sit real still and not move a muscle, he will climb all over me........but one twinge and hes outta there. Im not sure how old he is, but the lady at the pet store did mention he was not a baby.......wondering if because i didnt get him as a ........ummmm.........pup?? what the heck is a baby chin.........anyway........wondering if thats the reason hes not real tame........im working on it .....any suggestions??????

Answer:
Baby chins are kits
I have a chins who is like that... He doesn't mind climping on me or letting me pet him but if I try picking him up he's gone. And if I manage to pick him upp he struggles the whole time until I let him go. I've had him for 2 years.
Have you tried to bribe him with treats? You could try with some oats, that way he can have more than one.

Answer:
Swimmin, its normal for chins not to like being picked up, the best way I find to interact with my chins is put them in the bathroom, and I sit on the floor with them, they jump aorund and play but they also come up to visit me, they also come running if I shake their raisin jar but in order for me to catch them its to much bother ,,,and i think it stresses them out when i chase them so i simply get the dust house out, set in the floor, they jump in, then i transport them back to their cage in their house, thats how i get them out of their cage to, just hold the dust house up and they jump in

Answer:
Every chinchilla is different. Just because a chinchilla does not like to be held does not necessarily make him not tame. The mere fact your chinchilla likes to climb all over you during playtime is positive. Some chinchillas never tolerate being handled. It is also in a chinchilla's nature to take off when you try and touch them during playtime. Their sole focus is to go, go, go! They don't have time for cuddles when they are on a mission.

Answer:
Chins are by nature prey so that makes them more jumpy, alert, careful, suspicious, etc. There's a great deal of time, patience, and trust needed for a chin to become super cuddly (of course there are exceptions, lol). Your chin sounds normal.

Answer:
i have a chin who once hated to beheld and petted.....it took a year and now she loves to be picked up and taken out for play time :0)
i have another one who lets me pick her up and who loves to be petted...and then there is my spca chin who hates to be picked up or petted and i respect that.....she is getting better every day andnow comes to me on her own when the cage door is open...it can take a long time (years) to get a chin to trust you enough that they will let you pick them up...also who knows what previous experiences they have had from little baby chinnies

Answer:

Answer:
Every chin has its only persoanlity but I would say most of our chins don't like to snuggle, except our new girl Nala (and she will only snuggle if we are not out for playtime OUr Raven will jump on us and come over to see me but forget about holding her...denise is right, they are on a mission when they are out. its their time to explore and get exercise
We do not even try to pick up our chins after playtime...we use a large cardboard tube for transport and they all run right inside of it before and after playtime. WE put one end up to our body and cover the other hole with our hand, just to make sure they don't escape it works great and that way, no one is stressed (including us). BTW, YOur chin is so cute!

Answer:
