drying rosehip /What do you do?

Question:
I use a dehydrater and the rosehip comes out very hard .The chins love it and it is a good treat...Now I would like to try to dry it more naturally...Anyone have hints on what they do to dry it?cut in half?use oven?thnks

Answer:
Hmmm, good question. You don't like using your dehydrator? I didn't realize they weren't natural. I would think that you could dry them in the microwave...don't know how natural that is. I guess the oven would have the same effect.

Answer:
No.. ha ha My mother owns the dehydrator and she left behind one big bag my 3 yr old was holding...More natural is not what I meant just without that tool I guess would be a better way to put it..So I wanted to keep this bag and dry it differently ..still have 5 sandwich bags which I will use from the dehydrator....wouldn't the nuker just cook them ?..lol Thanks for the quick response CandyCane....This should be more clear....thanks

Answer:
You can dry them quickly and safely in the oven. Just put them in a single layer on a cookie sheet, turn the oven on lowest setting, and leave the door slightly open. It still takes a long time (1 1/2 to 2 days) so dehydrator may be better.

Answer:
wow... you can get rosehips with out being dried already?? where would you get them? I thought they just grew like that.. duhhhhh me... lol do they eat them with out being dried??? is it okay for them to eat them like that?

Answer:
Pam, I've never seen them any other way either

Answer:
I had never even heard of a rosehip until I got a chinchilla

Answer:
I never knew about rosehips either till I got my chinchillas...

Answer:
Rosehips are just the berries from rose bushes. They are just like very hard cranberries when they are fresh. We used to make rosehip jelly in Holland and I am itching to make rosehip wine. However, my chins get them all now, lol.
