question about breeding

Question:
I got this email from a friend who was wondering what the answer to this question is. I am not that familiar with velvets or breeding velvets (since we don't have any at this time) so I was wondering if someone could answer this question. I am very interested in the answer too. Thanks!
"Hi,
last saturday I have bought myself a new chinchilla. Later I heard that the chin I bought was from velvet x velvet parents. now some people say that this is bad an that I schould not breed with her. when other people say that this can't hurt at all.

how do you feel about this and what do you think is true? can it hurt to breed with my chinchilla or not?

greetz

ps please excuse me for my poor english I am from belgium and I am not used to write in english"

Answer:
I have heard of a couple of breeders that have bred velvet (tov) to velvet and produced healthy, happy babies. I would think that as long as she didn't breed this chin to another tov, everything will be fine.

Answer:
Just because she is from two TOV parents, it won't make a difference in breeding her. The question itself is from breeding two TOV's together, since there is a lethal factor involved. Where the lethal factor is involved, all that means is that there will be less babies born in a litter. I have heard that sometimes a fetus us reabsorbed into the uterine horn, eventually blocking it, but I am not sure how much truth that holds.

Answer:
Thanks guys...that is what I thought...as long as this person didn't breed with another TOV but i just wanted to make sure before I answered her. Thanks!

Answer:
Is the chin in question actually a TOV herself, or just her parents? If she is not a TOV, then it would be fine to breed her to a TOV.

Answer:
oh, i don't know but I will ask....I think the person that sent me this email, got an email from someone else with this question. I will point out though that if its not a TOV than breeding to a TOV is ok
