What kind of litterbox and litter do you use?

Question:
I'm curious as to what type of litterbox and litter everyone uses for their cats. Right now, we have two litterboxes. They are both the plastic pan type. One is actually the bottom from a covered litterbox (we don't use the cover because Max won't go inside) so it's quite a bit higher. For litter, we are using pine pellets, Swheat Scoop, crystals and World's Best, sometimes mixed together, sometimes straight. So far, it's working okay. We have been changing litters every now and then to see what works best (which explains the mix we have going on). We only have two cats but they can be very stinky sometimes.

Answer:
I am using a plastic kitty litter pan with no lid. I saw a really cool igloo style kitty litter box at Petcetera that I am going to buy As for kitty litter. I try not to use clumping, at least not until Cally is older. I think I may try those crystal things. Has anyone tried them before? Are they safe? I can't remember what brand I buy. I know it comes from Wal-mart, lol.

Answer:
I use crystals and they work okay. They are really good for absorbing moisture. So what are you using now?

Answer:
I just checked and I have "Special Kitty" clumping cat litter. It was the only thing left, as Walmart had a big sale.

Answer:
We use open pans (because Booger won't use a closed one) and cheapest, clay litter (because Booger doesn't like any smells). The other cats aren't picky, so we go by Boog- who tends to pee in shoes, etc. if she is not happy. It does not control odors well, so I dust about 1/2 box of baking soda in the bottom and put the litter on top. We have 2 boxes to 3 cats and they get changed weekly.

Answer:
I also use a sprinkle of baking soda in the boxes.

We also use our male, Max, as a gauge. He is so picky when it comes to his litterbox. He will defecate right next to the box if it isn't to his standards. Our boxes need to be cleaned at least once a day. If he steps into the litterbox and feels a clump or wetness under his foot, he will not use the box.

Answer:
I've noticed the same thing whenever we've had a male cat in the house. I've tried two over the years and I found them seriously messy- especially when another cat was involved.

Answer:
Max has been like that from day one. At first we suspected that something was physically wrong because we thought that cleaning the boxes once a day would be fine. Since we starting being more vigilant, he hasn't gone on the floor for a long time. We were considering getting the Littermaid but Max doesn't cover either () and that would cause the Littermaid to jam apparently.

Answer:
Its opposite here ,,its our female who is picky and will poop behind the fishtank or the bathtub if shes PO'd at something!!!

we use the hoodled litter box,,,we got the large one,,,,even tho it keeps the smell in, Kaymen will still get half way into the litter box and dig the litter out,,lol,,,

we use whatever kitty litter,,always scoopable tho,,,they are not picky but its usually the special kitty clumping from wal mart and I love it!!

Answer:
We use a covered litter box because B.B. is the frantic coverer. She will dig and cover forever it seems after she goes. Sometimes I even go in the laundry room where her box is kept and just say, B.B. that's enough now! In the middle of the night it sounds as though she is beating a drum, geesh! We use either Hartz pH balance clay litter or the Tidy Cats brand.
The covered litter box has a filter in the top that seems to help with dust and odor. (when I remember to change it).
