Wet or dry food for your cat?

Question:
Before Syd's urinary problems, we fed the cats mostly dry kibble and gave them wet food as a treat every now and then. Now, we feed them a mixure of wet and dry food.
In the morning, they get dry food, about 1/4 cup. Unfortunately, Syd LOVES her dry food. We tried to switch her to wet food only but she went on a hunger strike. At dinnertime, they get 1/8 of a can of wet food with about 1/4 cup of water. This is mostly to tide them over until their night feeding. Before bed, Max gets another 1/4 of the can of wet food, with water, and Syd gets another 1/8 (she won't eat anymore than that) with water and her Berry Balance. I also give them about 1/4 cup of dry food, mostly to keep Max full so that he won't bother me through the night.

Answer:
Cally is still a kitten so she gets mostly wet food. Every couple days she gets real fish or tuna (as in stuff for humans, that I puree`) with some dry kitten food mixed in.

Answer:
I meant to put real fish or chicken, lol.

Answer:
Courtney, be very careful when giving fish to cats. It is VERY high in magnesium and can lead to struvite stones (not fun...my cat had/has them).

Here is an article on struvite crystals/stones.

Answer:
She only has about 1/2 teaspoon once a week. Is that too much?

Answer:
Thanks for the article

Answer:
My cats get unlimited kibble and a spoonful each of the meat and gravy type fod (always beef- they only like beef) each per day.

Answer:
Personally, I wouldn't feed it at all. Urinary crystals and stones are not fun and they are very costly to treat.

Answer:
Thanks for the advice Candice, she won't be getting any more fish.

Answer:
I put other, only because I feed only dry to the 5 of them and only wet to Donovan & Orangeyabald. So it didn't really fit in either catergory. They are all on feedings, twice a day, though I may have to up Donovan as he does not seem to keep the weight on with the strictly wet diet. Currently Donovan and Orangey get 1/2 can per feeding. The rest get about a handful of food per feeding (I know, that's precise-but it's always my handful ), though the ladies don't usually finish it all.
