Hurt Paw

Question:
Hi all,
Sydney seems to have hurt her paw somehow. I noticed it on Thursday night as she was sort of slinking around instead of walking normally. Then on Friday morning, I saw her lift it a couple times while she was sitting. Tonight, she is walking with a slight limp and keeps lifting it when she is sitting. I thought her pads may be a bit dry so we put some cream on them on Friday but I doubt that was the problem. It doesn't seem to be affecting her much, she is still running, jumping, playing and sharpening her claws. I have checked it over numerous times and can't seem to find anything. The only thing I find strange is when I tap on her front claws, she pulls her paw back. I tried it on both of her front paws and she did it on both. I'm thinking it may just be a reflex...anyone know?
Anyway, I have checked everything that I possibly can...she will be going into the vet on Monday should it still be the same...earlier if it gets worse. Does anyone have any advice?

Answer:
Maybe her nail bed is infected? Did you check in between the pads to make sure something isn't trapped in there? Hmmm.... I really don't know.. just guessing. Let us know what you find out...

Answer:
I'm thinking maybe a splinter? If Syd's still hurting Mon., a checkup might be worthwhile, or there couldbe a secondary infection.

Answer:
Sue, I checked between each toe and pad for cuts and/or foreign objects and found nothing. I retracted all of her claws and it didn't bother her one bit.
This morning I noticed that the middle pad (the big one) is a little puffy. I'm wondering if maybe it's frostbitten. She got out on Wednesday morning when my brother let Taz out. She was only out for about 10 minutes...but I wonder if that may have caused it. It seems weird that it would only affect one paw though. I'm going to call my vet again tomorrow and see what he thinks.

Answer:
Candice, poor Syd! Seems like she is having a bad time lately. I hope she gets better and it isn't anything too serious. Taking her to the vet is the best thing to do. Keeping Syd in my thoughts.

Answer:
Could she have stepped on some salt from the sidewalk? How is she doing now?

Answer:
Her paw is more swollen now than it was this morning so she will probably be going to the vet tomorrow morning unless it gets better. She has resorted to not using the paw at all which make be better as she won't be aggrevating the injury. I'm still stumped as to what she did and how she did it.

Answer:
Aw, poor Syd I hope the vet finds an easy solution and makes her feel better

Answer:
Well, her paw looked less swollen this morning...still a bit puffy but better.
I phoned my vet this morning and after I told him everything that I have done so far, he thinks that it may just be a sprain. The peroxide never bubbled when I cleaned it so it's unlikely that there is any type of laceration or puncture. He said I could give her children's aspirin (which I had planned on asking him about) to help the pain and swelling. So, we are just going to monitor her and she how things go. She's still a little terror so that's good news.

Answer:
oh poor kitty cat
