... is it true that male chins (unneutered) masturbate/orally satisfy themselves all the time? Is that how they get hair rings?
I am asking because a friend of mine is potentially taking on a chin but is worried because the chin is male. He doesn't especially want that behaviour in a pet & would rather get a female if it is true.No offence to male chin owners or male chins!!!

I have two guys and they don't do it all the time. I maybe catch them doing it once or twice a month. As far as I know they do it to clean themselfes i.e. to prevent hair rings.

"The behavior" does not cause hair rings. But often "the behavior" occurs at the MOST inopportune times.

Males can get hair rings from mating, but not all the time. I have one male thats been by himself for over a year and he gets them. They got alot of hair and so I guess weather their mating or not their gonna get one. They will orally clean themselves and this is to clean. Although I do believe they just enjoy doing it too...
Also they don't do it all the time, some more them others but I haven't seen one do it daily or anything.

I think I have seen Diego cleaning himself twice and Santos only once. Diego has had a hair ring before but I think it's because his fur is really long. I don't think that it is a "problem".
