Question:
Well this whole last week Grizzly (dog) had been barking at the back sliding door. Ive checked and seen some critter go flying into the edge of the woods, not unusual usually its a ground hog/rabbit or some other native critter. Today I found out whats been driving him nutty its a calico cat. I put on my coat and shoes and tried to call to it but it ran as soon as it saw me (quite a ways away). There use to be a problem with idiot neighbor and her loose cats but they either ran away or she dumped them all and I have only seen one other cat on this street since and its NOT this one. IM wondering should I take some cat food out for her? Leave it back by the woods or will I be doing more harm than good? I cant keep a cat but if I could get her id surely let her stay indoors in a kennel in the basment (finshied basement) until I could find a rescue to take her or a new home for her, Its freezing cold out, so im just looking for your opinions and advice here, cats arent my strong suit.

It would be a nice gesture to leave food out for her but will you attract other cats as well? I am sure you don't want your backyard swarming with cats. If you don't have an overabundance of cats roaming the area, it wouldn't hurt to leave food out for her, especially since it is so cold right now.

You might also want to post a notice at the store or mail boxes.. with a description of the cat incase she is truly someone's lost cat. It wouldn't hurt to feed her until you can earn her trust... hopefully she will be able to get a new home... if you can catch her. Please be sure that she is scanned for a microchip before placed in a new home... and place a found ad in the paper when you catch her so the former owners have a chance to claim her before she's re-homed. Let us know what happens..

Ill put food out this evening. I have iams kitten food that I feed as part of my ferrets diet. Should i try to put water out to, im sure it would freeze pretty quickly in this weather. If I can get her I will deffintly have her scanned by my vet and post notices, im going to call later this afternoon to our guard shak everyone in candlewood usually reports missing pets that live in the area up there as well. I just feel horrid her being out in this cold weather.
It is true that all calico cats are female right? She reminds me of my little Stinker cat I had growing up.
